Medical negligence, also known as medical malpractice, is the failure of a healthcare professional to provide an acceptable standard of care. Negligence can occur when a doctor fails to diagnose, misdiagnoses, or delays in diagnosing a medical condition, fails to provide adequate treatment, or provides treatment that causes harm.

To prove medical negligence, you must be able to demonstrate that the medical provider failed to provide the standard of care that is accepted by the medical community. This includes showing that the medical provider deviated from the accepted standard of care, and that the deviation was the cause of the injury or harm that was suffered. Additionally, you must be able to demonstrate that the harm or injury suffered was of a kind that a reasonable medical provider would have foreseen. To do this, you may need to consult a medical expert to provide an opinion on whether the standard of care was met.
